# Elevator inspection checklist

This is a monthly check that building staff can do from inside the car: does the elevator run smoothly, does the emergency intercom work, and do the doors open and close properly? Print the checklist below, or use the same template on a phone in MintCheck.

## Elevator check (Monthly)

Operation, doors and intercom

| Item | Result |
| --- | --- |
| Operation, noise/vibration | ☐ |
| Emergency intercom works | ☐ |
| Door opening/closing | ☐ Normal ☐ Minor issue ☐ Repair now |
| Notes | |
| Overall result | ☐ Normal ☐ Abnormal |

## How to do each check

### Operation, noise and vibration

Ride up and down and stop at several floors. The ride should be smooth, the car should stop level with the floor, and there should be no new noise, shaking or jolting.

### Emergency intercom

Press the emergency button in the car and check that someone answers. Say straight away that it is a test.

### Door opening and closing

- **Normal:** the doors open and close smoothly, and reopen when something is in the way.
- **Minor issue:** the doors work but are slow, noisy or rubbing.
- **Repair now:** the doors stick, fail to close or don't reopen when something is in the way.

### Notes

Write down anything else you notice, such as a broken button, a dead light or a damaged panel in the car.

## How often to check

This template is set to monthly. Busy buildings often look more often, and you can change the schedule. How often an elevator must be inspected, and by whom, depends on your country, so check the rules that apply to your building.

A check like this doesn't replace inspection and maintenance by a qualified company. Machine rooms, shafts and pits are for qualified people only.

## If something is wrong

1. Mark it on the checklist and describe the problem. A photo helps.
2. If it could be unsafe, keep people out of the elevator and put up a notice.
3. Call your elevator maintenance company. Don't try to repair it yourself.
4. Check it again after the fix and record the result.

## Use this checklist in MintCheck

1. In **Checklists**, click **Add checklist** and pick the elevator template. Its items and monthly schedule are filled in, and you can change them before you save.
2. In **Assets**, click **Add asset**, pick the elevator template and link the checklist. One checklist can serve every elevator in the building.
3. Click **Print QR** and put a label next to each elevator or inside the car.
4. Workers scan the label, answer the items and mark the result **Normal** or **Abnormal**. They can attach photos.

An **Abnormal** result stays **Unresolved** until a re-inspection confirms the fix, and the site dashboard shows completed inspections against the planned number.

Riders often notice a problem first. Turn on the complaint box for the elevator and put its complaint QR code up nearby, and they can report a problem from their phone with no account or app.

MintCheck is free for up to 5 assets with no credit card, so you can try this with the elevators in one building.

## Common questions

### How often should an elevator be inspected?

This template uses a monthly check by building staff. Legal inspection and maintenance intervals differ by country and type of elevator, so check the rules that apply to your building and ask your maintenance company.

### Does this checklist replace the legally required elevator inspection?

No. It is a routine check by building staff and a starting point, not a statement of compliance. Inspection and maintenance by a qualified company are separate.

### Who can do this check?

Someone on site can usually do it once they have been shown how, because it only needs a ride in the car and a test of the intercom. Anything behind a panel is for qualified people.

### What if the emergency intercom doesn't work?

Treat it as urgent, because people trapped in the car rely on it. Tell the person responsible and call your maintenance company right away. Your local rules may also say whether the elevator can stay in service.

### Can people in the building report elevator problems?

Yes. In MintCheck, turn on the complaint box for the elevator. Anyone can scan the complaint QR code, describe the problem and add photos, without an account or app. See [Complaint box](https://mintcheck.today/en/help/complaint-box/).
